Hooray it’s arrived! The sun that is in case you were wondering.

Jane MitchellAfter a disappointing string of cancelled swims this year, I am now in a positive frame of mind and know that the rest of the summer is going to be great!!

I had a lovely swim yesterday at Box End Park in Bedfordshire. The water was a lovely temp – about 16-18 degrees I’d guess. They are trying to gauge interest for a 10 k swim on the 25th August – so if anyone is interested, contact Gale-Force events. I had difficulty standing up to get out of the water after 5k; I’m not sure how I would cope after 10k…..Eeeeek!

I have been struggling to train in the pool due to a mix of boredom and my local pool opening times not fitting in with my day. My training plan for the spring/summer was going to incorporate competing regularly in open water events, but so far I have had five cancelled this year.

Onwards and upwards though, my training routine now goes along these lines:

Saturday              12 – 15k run

Sunday                 1.5 k pool swim, spin session, 5k run and body pump if I’m really feeling it!

Monday                day off or a small 5k run

Tuesday               1.5 k pool swim, body combat session

Wednesday          spin session, 1.5 k pool swim

Thursday             7-8k run or body attack, body pump

Friday                  spin session.

Any comments/suggestions about my training routine would be gratefully received. Am I doing too much, not enough??  I really want to do the Olympic distance in the London triathlon and need to do A LOT of work to get fit enough for it.

I am really looking forward to getting delivery of my bike courtesy of Raleigh bikes.  Hopefully I can update you on my next blog. I’m not denying I am feeling a little nervous about going on the open road – but hey, it can’t be that different to a spin class can it???? Ha ha I hear you seasoned cyclists laugh!

I’m also planning on doing the open water swim training in Bournemouth this Saturday. Not sure how that will fit in with a work’s night out on the night before……..watch this space!
